Aegg's new manufacturing facility in Eye, Suffolk
Andover-based specialist food and beverge packaging company Aegg is building a new 60k sq feet manufacturing facility in Eye, Suffolk, in response to expanding UK and export demand for its PS, PET and PP food pots and bowls. The working title of the project is ‘Aegg in the Eye’.
The facility is scheduled to start production in first half of 2018.
Phase One of the unit will include 5 Netstal injection moulding machines and 2 injection stretch blow moulding machines with additional machines added during Phase Two.
As Aegg’s Managing Director, Jamie Gorman, said: “With more of Aegg’s manufacturing taking place in the UK, this will allow us more control in times of future uncertainty whilst Brexit negotiations take place. Phase One includes 60k sq feet, although this is expandable to 140k.”
The company is initially investing £1million in this new facility to offer additional capabilities to UK markets as well as the 11 export markets and airline businesses it currently serves. Customers will benefit from new technologies and materials, with those located overseas also being able to take advantage of Brexit driven exchange rate changes.
The company is also undertaking initiatives to improve the environmental credentials of its product ranges and of all company activities. Among others, it is looking into alternative power choices that are available at the Eye location, helping to minimise the carbon footprint of its activities.
